Ebola outbreak in DRC

Ebola has struck the Eastern region of the DRC. It appears to have started a few weeks ago and has already spread from Ituri province to the area around Goma and neighbouring Uganda.

The particular strain of Ebola virus that is responsible for the outbreak is hard to detect on standard tests. There are no established vaccines or drug treatments for this strain. Treatment consists of supportive care and isolation of patients to prevent the infection spreading to others. Neither of these measures are easy to achieve in an area where conflict is present and people are having to move constantly. The authorities in DRC are, however, experienced in managing this terrible infection and an international intervention is underway.

Please pray for CME and all their staff. Nyankunde and Bunia are situated in Ituri province and so are at the heart of this outbreak. It is a very dangerous time for them all. Pray for courage, their trust in God, an ability to work well together and with the public health authorities. Pray that sufficient supplies will arrive promptly. Pray for the necessary contact tracing and that this outbreak will be swiftly contained.

It is so important for everyone at CME not to be or feel isolated and forgotten in this time of crisis. They need your love and prayers.
