We join today with many people around the world to thank God for a truce in Gaza and a possibility of peace in that ravaged place. However peace remains a distant prospect in eastern DRC. There has been a recent increase in violence in the region served by CME. Villages and churches have been attacked. Over 200 people are reported to have been killed and many people have had to flee. Violence and lawlessness are perhaps the two biggest obstacles facing eastern DRC. They leave people trapped in fear and uncertainty. They worsen poverty and reduce access to education and healthcare.
CME lives within this unstable environment, holding out love, hope and faith in Jesus Christ as the reason for their existence and persistence. Staff work everyday to see people healed, nourished and restored. Friends of CME supports them to do this sacrificial work. The apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 3 v 15 ‘Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.’ So please pray for peace in the region and peace for everyone working for CME.
