November 2011: Oxford Church Nyankunde Schools Gift

We are delighted to receive from St Ebbe's Church in Oxford, UK, a gift of over £4900, which they raised as a Harvest offering to support the Nyankunde Schools project. St Ebbe's responded to our appeal for money to enable the thousands of orphans in Nyankunde to go to school this year.

July 2011: Fundraising Cycle Ride

Our good friend Dennis Tailor is cycling from the bottom of England (Lands End) to the top of Scotland (John O'Groats) - a total of 1,150 miles. He is planning to do it on consecutive days in July and to complete the journey in less than 3 weeks.

He is doing it to raise money for Friends of CME Trust and another charity caring for women who are victims of abuse.

Friends of CME is getting 50% of the proceeds which will be used to help CME in completing its new hospital in the north east of Democratic Republic of Congo. Three buildings (operating theatre, intensive care and maternity) are now completed and out patient consultations have begun but a few obstacles remain to a permanent move from the temporary site - building latrines and piping water from the capped well.

Since Dennis is doing it for CME, and you have helped with our work in the past, I wondered if you would be interested in sponsoring him? Dennis is the person who has organised the fund raising events that I have been involved in in the past. I won't be asking you to sponsor me for anything else this summer! If you want you help, you can do this:

on line here: Dennis Tailor Just Giving

or fill in the sponsorship form (pdf) and return it to me by email or in the post.

Any cheques should be paid to Friends of CME Trust.

Thanks very much for considering this.

Sincerely,

Chris

February 2011: the last 6 years and our plans going forward

In the 6 years since Friends of CME Trust was established, we have received £354,000 in donations. The 3 biggest uses of this money have been £75,000 for building the new hospital at Beni/Sosé, £65,000 for the schools at Nyankunde and £38,000 to subsidise patients at the three hospitals. Going forward, we want to concentrate our funds on subsidising patient care and feeding the malnourished. For more infomation please download the latest newletter here.

Appeals update 2011

In November 2009 we launched an urgent appeal to raise immediate funds for the schools in Nyankunde. We were running out of money to continue funding the education of Nyankunde's 5,500 school children. We have been so encouraged by the generous response to that appeal. Our target was to raise at least £2,200 a month to pay the 234 teachers' salaries. In response to our appeal we have received £27,500 plus £1,000 committed for each month going forward. With the £3,500 we had before our appeal, we now have enough to support the teachers until June 2011. This is a wonderful answer to what was becoming a desperate situation and we thank all of you who helped financially and prayerfully for the situation.
